Love Without Borders Refugee Art Show

December 2 @ 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Love Without Borders will host a public exhibition of art made my participating refugees from the Middle East and North Africa who are in Greece, awaiting approval of their asylum applications.  The art is made from donation-funded art supplies provided to the artists by volunteers from our organization, and is available for purchase at this event. One hundred percent of the profits from the purchase from each piece of art will be returned to the artist who made it to help them provide for themselves and their families.

Ms. Kayra Martinez, founder of Love Without Borders will speak about her volunteer work in Greek refugee camps and how she started Love Without Borders.

Dr. Nancy Liu, professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, will speak about the psychological mechanisms of stress and resilience and the role of art in facilitating recovery from stress and trauma.

Ms. Nahid Fattahi, a former refugee from Afghanistan and poet, will recite some of her work and speak to her experience as a displaced individual making a new life in a new home.

Additionally, some participating artists will communicate what it means to them to participate in Love Without Borders art workshops and contribute to our exhibitions.

We thank the student organizations at UC Berkeley sponsoring this event: the Afghan Student Association, the Cognitive Science Student Association, and more.
